Wikipedia Discovery Workshop – Understand, Contribute, Evaluate

2 hours – Online

Wondering how to create a Wikipedia page?

Are you an artist, researcher, self-employed or simply curious to understand what is behind this collaborative encyclopedia?

I offer you a 120-minute online workshop to discover the basics of Wikipedia and concretely explore the potential (or limits) of your own contribution topic.

This workshop can also be used to determine whether a page can be created or not, according to the platform’s eligibility criteria. No prior experience is required.

In this workshop, you will be guided step-by-step to:

  • understand how Wikipedia works and its fundamental rules (neutrality, verifiability, reliable sources, etc.)

  • Discover the editing interface (visual editor, codebases)

  • See how to start a draft or an article outline

  • learn how to properly source a page (and what you consider an acceptable source)

  • Assess the relevance of a topic: eligibility, notability, secondary sources

  • Identify common mistakes to avoid when creating a page

  • ask your questions about your case or that of an ongoing project

Whether you have a specific project in mind or simply want to understand what goes on behind the scenes of Wikipedia, this workshop will give you a solid foundation to move forward methodically.
